Writing a cover letter that stands out

The cover letter is your chance to show why you're right for the role — in a voice your CV can't convey. Here's a simple structure and concrete tips.

A structure that works

Keep the letter to one page and three or four short paragraphs: an opening that grabs interest, a paragraph on why you fit the role, one on why you want this particular company, and a short closing with a call to action.

Start strong

Skip “My name is … and I'm applying for the role of …”. Open with something concrete instead: a result, an insight, or why the company's mission excites you. The first lines decide whether the letter gets read to the end.

Connect to the job

Read the ad carefully and mirror its language. Pick out two or three requirements and show with examples how you meet them. Generic letters are obvious — tailored letters win.

Close clearly

Sum up what you bring and end with a friendly call to the next step. In Rosecut you can write your cover letter in the same style as your CV and let AI help you phrase it — then export it to PDF or Word.
